Each OctaFlow III™system includes the following:

  • Magnetic stand(s) with poles
  • Valve manifold(s) with islotation or pinch valves and 5ml pressurized syringe reservoirs
  • Flush valve(s)
  • Quartz MicroManifold® perfusion outlet manifold(s) in various configurations (see below)
  • 230µm ID and 600µm OD Teflon tubing (FEP-1) and compression fittings (CF-1) for 1/16″ ID tubing (other sizes available – see below)
  • USB cable and software

Each OctaFlow III™ system features a choice of valves:

  • Pinch valves : The 3-way normally open and normally closed pinch valves require minimal maintenance in long-term perfusion experiments and have response times of 15-20 ms.
  • Isolation valves : The 2-way normally closed isolation valves are optimized for high-speed solution exchange. These valves are completely isolated when closed and have response times of 3 to 4 ms.

  • FEP-2: Clear Teflon tubing with 380µm ID and 760µm OD
  • QMM-8: Quartz MicroManifold® 8 to 1 channel perfusion outlet manifold with 100µm or 200µm ID polyimide-coated quartz tubing and tip (other sizes available)
  • QMM-16: Quartz MicroManifold® 16 to 1 channel perfusion outlet manifold with 100µm or 200µm ID polyimide-coated quartz tubing and tip (other sizes available)

Overview

The OctaFlow III™ perfusion system from ALA Scientific Instruments is an advanced, computer-controlled solution designed for fast and precise drug application in electrophysiology and imaging research. It enables researchers to control all perfusion parameters through an intuitive software interface, ensuring high reproducibility and experimental flexibility.

The system uses valve-based control of solution flow rather than mechanical movement of pipettes, significantly reducing sample loss during solution exchange. Users can select solutions instantly via keyboard input and execute complex, preprogrammed delivery sequences. Integrated trigger inputs and outputs allow seamless synchronization with external data acquisition systems.

OctaFlow III offers flexible configuration options with 8 or 16 reservoirs, enabling both continuous perfusion and rapid focal application. Additional features such as programmable fluid pressurization, rapid flush cleaning mode, and analog output signals provide full control and monitoring of the experimental process. The system communicates via USB and is operated through a modern Windows-based interface, allowing easy setup, execution, and storage of experimental protocols.
