Soft and stretchable microelectrode arrays (sMEAs) represent a recent innovation compared to traditional rigid MEAs for recording and stimulating extracellular electrophysiological activity. sMEAs offer a softer and more dynamic mechanical environment for cells, enhancing physiological relevance compared to rigid or simply flexible MEAs. This increased physiological relevance translates into better predictions of cell behavior in vivo. sMEAs function similarly to traditional MEAs for recording and stimulating extracellular electrophysiological activity in tissue slices or dissociated cell cultures. They can be utilized with data acquisition systems from both BMSEED and Multichannel Systems.
